Nepal Falls to Netherlands in Historic Third Super Over Thriller

Kathmandu: In a dramatic and historic T20 International Triangular Series encounter, Nepal was defeated by the Netherlands in an unprecedented third super over at Titwood Stadium, Scotland. This marks the first time in international cricket history that a match result was decided in a third super over.

The thrilling contest saw both teams locked in a dead heat multiple times. After the regulation 20 overs ended in a tie, with both sides scoring 152 runs, the match extended to successive super overs.

In the first super over, Nepal set a target of 20 runs after scoring 19. The Netherlands matched the score with 19 of their own, pushing the match to a second super over. Again, both teams scored 17 runs, forcing an extraordinary third super over.

Nepal faltered under pressure in the third super over, failing to score a single run. Captain Rohit Poudel was dismissed on the first delivery, and Rupesh Singh followed after two dot balls. The Netherlands capitalized, sealing the win with a six off the first ball, needing just one run.

Earlier in the day, Nepal was set a target of 153 runs by the Netherlands. They responded with 152/8 in 20 overs. Captain Rohit Poudel led the chase with 48 runs off 35 balls, while Kushal Bhurtel added 34 and Rupesh Singh contributed 19. Nepal needed five runs off the final ball to win, but Nandan Yadav could only manage a boundary, tying the game.

For the Netherlands, Daniel Doram claimed 3 wickets, Vikramjit Singh took 2, while Kyle Klein, Ben Fletcher, and Chaj Lyon chipped in with 1 each.

Batting first after losing the toss, the Netherlands posted 152/7. Teja Nidamanuru top-scored with 35 runs, while Vikramjit Singh made 30 and Shakib Zulfiqar added 25. Sandeep Lamichhane was the pick of Nepal’s bowlers, taking 3 wickets, followed by Nandan Yadav (2), and Kushal Bhurtel and Lalit Rajbanshi with a wicket each.

The Netherlands had lost their first match of the series to Scotland by 39 runs on Friday.
